Woodturning

General

Steve Fearnley has been woodturning for some years now, since 2008. His son, Daniel, joined him woodturning in 2018. They produce a variety of items ranging from household goods and ornaments to clocks and trophies. Many are produced on commission: working with customers to realise their idea for a design, usually through an exchange of emails. There is a large and continually growing gallery of woodturning items on this site. There are also pictures of the latest woodturning pieces they have made on an index page.

Kind words

Customers sometimes write about the commissions they have received. Here are a selection of their kind words.

Trophies and commemorative items

We produce a wide variety of wooden trophies and commemorative items for schools, clubs, businesses and sporting competitions. We welcome commissions for trophies, which will be designed on an individual basis. Inscriptions, logos and designs can be added using pyrography - a technique involving burning the wood with a fine hot-wire stylus.

The garden at Garth End Cottage, Thornton le Dale

Garth End Cottage

Steve has been a keen gardener for 30 years, and has opened his garden in Thornton le Dale for charity a number of times.

A log of interesting events in the garden, and trips to other people's gardens is on this site, mainly because it is an interest in Steve's life at least equivalent to woodturning.

Garden talks

Steve Fearnley has given a number of illustrated talks on gardens over the years, including talks about the development of his own garden over 30 years, garden maintenance, Yorkshire gardens, and National Trust gardens
