Description of work

Two boxes turned with the intention of holding jewellery, although someone suggested to me that they could be pill boxes! Fair enough if you have a lot of pills. They are turned from sapele, an African hardwood which is not on the endangered species list. The small button handle on the top is ebony. The boxes have a shelf inside with six circular dishes turned in them - see the picture below. This sits above a reasonably deep space in the main bowl. A rose stencil has been pyrographed on the top of the box.

Two similar boxes are shown below, actually from the same plank of sapele. Most timbers could be used for this design of box, although the exotic hardwoods are more likely to remain stable.

The boxes are finished with a triple wax system - rouge, white diamond, and finally high polish in carnauba wax.
